The Solar Festoon Fairy Lights turn a garden, balcony or patio into a warm, welcoming space, and they run on sunlight alone. This 15-metre run pairs two looks on a single cable: 15 filament-styles LED globes glowing at 2500K warm white, and a trail of tiny fairy lights woven along the wire between them, so you get the character of festoon bulbs and the soft sparkle of a fairy string at once. There is no mains power, no wiring and no electrician: an integrated solar panel charges through the day and the lights switch themselves on at dusk, running for 8 to 10 hours on a full charge, with a handheld remote to set the brightness, the effect and a timer. Rated IP65, the string lives happily outdoors through rain, dust and every season. Backed by a 2-year warranty.

Built to last outdoors, the string uses a heavy-duty UV-stabilised cable and shatterproof LED globes that shrug off knocks and weather. A dual-battery backup stores more of the day's charge, which helps carry the lights through the evening even as the days shorten and there is less sun to draw on. And where cheaper solar strings give you only faint pinpoints, here the filament globes carry the real light while the fairy strand adds the sparkle, so it actually lights a space rather than just outlining it.

Solar festoon lights work by converting sunlight into electricity through a solar panel. During the day, the solar panel charges a built-in rechargeable battery. A light sensor activates the lights when it gets dark, running on the stored battery power. Our solar festoon lights feature a 15-meter string with 15 LED bulbs powered by a solar panel with a 3-meter lead, allowing you to position the panel in an optimal sunlight location while placing the lights where you want them.
On a full charge, our solar festoon lights will illuminate for 6-8 hours. If the following day is overcast with limited sunlight, the lights can still provide approximately 3-4 hours of illumination from the partial charge received. The actual runtime depends on several factors, including the lighting mode selected (steady vs. flashing), the dimming feature used, and the amount of sunlight received during charging.
Yes, the Solra string features an IP65 weatherproof rating, meaning it is fully protected against heavy rain, wind, and dust. They are specifically engineered to withstand the Australian and New Zealand climate for year-round outdoor display.
Our solar festoon lights use 1W LED bulbs that produce 80 lumens each. While this is less than some mains-powered festoon lights, the warm white light creates a cozy, ambient glow perfect for creating an atmosphere in gardens and outdoor spaces. The light output balances energy efficiency with adequate brightness for decorative lighting. Multiple strings can be used together for areas requiring brighter illumination, though each operates independently.
Our solar festoon lights feature a USB charging input on the solar panel. This allows you to charge the lights directly from a power source when sunlight is limited or when you must ensure the lights are fully charged for a specific event. Simply connect a standard USB charger to the input connector on the solar panel. This dual-charging capability ensures your lights can operate reliably regardless of weather conditions.
While direct sunlight provides the most efficient charging, our solar festoon lights can still charge with indirect sunlight or even artificial light, though at a reduced rate. For optimal performance, we recommend placing the solar panel in a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. If sunlight is limited, the USB charging option lets you charge the battery directly from a power source, ensuring your lights work even during cloudy weather.

These units are designed as standalone sets to ensure the solar panel provides maximum power and brightness to the LEDs. For larger areas, we recommend placing multiple solar panels side by side to achieve a seamless, brilliant lighting effect without overloading a single circuit.
Our solar festoon lights require approximately 6-8 hours of good sunlight to reach a full charge. If using the USB charging option, the charging time is similar. For first-time use or after extended storage, we recommend charging the lights for a full day before use to ensure maximum battery capacity and performance.
While performance is best in direct sunlight, our high-efficiency panels are optimised to harvest energy even during overcast conditions. You may notice a slightly shorter run time in mid-winter, but the automatic sensor ensures they still illuminate as soon as dusk falls.

Our 15m solar string lights couldn’t have been easier to set up and they work perfectly for our space. We have them strung around our fire pit area and they throw just enough light to enable us to eat around the fire but not enough to disturb our view of the stars. Very happy with these lights. Important to note they are IP65 rated which means they will last in an outdoor environment. All NZ suppliers I found supply poor quality IP44 rated lights, that can handle a little rain - but won’t last outdoors over time. Worth paying a little more for this superior quality!

These fairy string lights aren’t good. When the solar power fades they flash. They replaced and sent a new solar box for them but it is the same problem. We’ve had solar fairy lights for years and have never come across this. The shop also said they’ve never had this feedback but it’s the same issue with the replacement solar part so it’s clearly a fault with the design. They also only last a couple of hours and the flashing begins early into the evening, around 9pm after a 7pm sunset.
We’re throwing them away. A waste of money.
Hi Angelique, it seems there is an issue with how you have set up the solar panel. When the panel is facing the North, it will usually produce the most significant energy output. That's because Australia is in the southern hemisphere, and the sun is mainly directed from the north. Since your panel is not correctly positioned, the batteries do not fully charge; hence the bulbs only last a few hours. ---
The bulbs will flicker briefly to notify us that the battery is depleted. This happens just before the bulbs are turned off. Similar notifications occur on most battery-operated devices, such as mobile phones and watches, where the battery icon would start to flash just before the device is turned off. If you need any other help, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Got these lights for our pergola. Very nice. Bright enough but not too bright creating a nice warm glow. Will stay on all night but keep in mind lights may flicker when battery starts running low. Quality looks good and we really hope the plastic solar panel will last for a long time in the scorching sun. Small issue with product swiftly fixed by Liquid LEDs. Thumbs up!
