GU10 or MR16: which spotlight type do I need?

GU10 is a mains-voltage bulb with a twist-lock base. It fits directly into the majority of recessed ceiling downlights without a driver or transformer. MR16 is a low-voltage bulb with a bi-pin base, requiring a driver or transformer on the circuit. It's found in older installations and commercial or architectural fixtures specified for low-voltage operation.

Check the existing bulb or the fixture label. If the bulb twists into the fixture, it's GU10. If it pushes in with two pins, it's MR16.
