Spotlights are the fixtures most directly responsible for the overall quality of light in a room, since they typically provide the primary ambient layer from ceiling-recessed positions. In a kitchen, they light the work surfaces. In a living room, they set the baseline warmth. In a hallway, they define the character of the space between rooms. The quality of the spotlight bulb determines all of this.

Dulora's spotlight range covers GU10 and MR16 in Warm White 2700K, Soft White 3000K, and dim-to-warm models that shift automatically from 3000K at full brightness to 1800K at low levels. CRI 95 to 97+ across the range, with select models reaching CRI 97+ for near-perfect color rendering on food, surfaces, and skin tones.

Dim-to-warm spotlights are the premium option for rooms that serve multiple purposes: functional white for daytime tasks, golden warmth for evening atmosphere, from the same fixture with no manual adjustment beyond the dimmer. Every dimmable model works with a quality LED-rated dimmer.

LED Spotlights: Choosing the Right Bulb for the Fixtures That Light Most of Your Home

GU10 or MR16: which spotlight type do I need?

GU10 is a mains-voltage bulb with a twist-lock base. It fits directly into the majority of recessed ceiling downlights without a driver or transformer. MR16 is a low-voltage bulb with a bi-pin base, requiring a driver or transformer on the circuit. It's found in older installations and commercial or architectural fixtures specified for low-voltage operation.

Check the existing bulb or the fixture label. If the bulb twists into the fixture, it's GU10. If it pushes in with two pins, it's MR16.

What is dim-to-warm and is it worth the premium?

Dim-to-warm spotlights automatically shift color temperature as they dim: functional white at full brightness, deeply warm amber at low levels. The transition is smooth and requires nothing beyond a dimmer on the circuit.

The premium is most justified in kitchens and living rooms where the same downlights serve both daytime tasks and evening atmosphere. For hallways and utility spaces where downlights are typically left at one level, standard non-dim-to-warm models are sufficient.

How do I choose the right beam angle?

Narrow beams create focused, accent-style light suited to display applications, artwork, and architectural features. Wide beams spread light broadly for general ambient coverage. Medium beams are the most versatile for residential downlights: wide enough for even coverage, focused enough for some contrast and definition.

Atmosphere, Illuminated.

Frequently Asked Questions: LED Spotlights

  • What CRI rating do Dulora spotlight bulbs have?
  • CRI 95 to 97+ across the range. Food, surfaces, and skin tones appear accurate and natural, a significant improvement over standard CRI 80 downlights.
  • Do dim-to-warm spotlights require a special dimmer?
  • No special dimmer is required. A standard LED-rated dimmer controls the brightness, and the color temperature shift happens automatically within the bulb.
  • What's the difference between GU10 and MR16?
  • GU10 is mains-voltage with a twist-lock base. MR16 is low-voltage with a bi-pin base requiring a driver. The two aren't interchangeable.
  • Are Dulora spotlight bulbs safety certified?
  • Yes. All Dulora spotlight bulbs are safety certified and covered by a three-year warranty.
