How do I know if my fitting uses G9?

The G9 has two looped wire pins that push into the socket. It operates at mains voltage and is physically larger than the G4 (which is low-voltage with straight pins). If the fitting previously contained a small, hot halogen capsule in a kitchen pendant or wall light, it's likely G9.

Frosted or clear G9: which should I choose?
